What does this mean?

What happened before the event or early in the person's life to inspire them?

What was the vibe during the event or during the figure's heyday?

What was the immediate reaction post event (if an event)? Or time period even?

What is the lasting effect of this figure or event?

Research Reading Techniques

When searching and garnering many results:

  • Read the titles
  • Read any blurbs
  • Do those two things automatically count some out?
  • If there are still many results, either consider changing the time frame and making it more recent and/or making your search term more specific

How to decide if the source is one you want to use:

  • Read the first paragraph
  • Read any headings
  • Read the last paragraph
  • It will be one of the following:
    • Solid - you're going to read it all or most of it and most likely use it
    • Unsure, but possible - you're going to save the link for just in case and see if there's something better
    • Absolutely not - great, you haven't blown a whole lot of time - find a new option

Central Questions

Review central questions for your research

  1. What background information does your audience (the viewing public) need to know about your topic?

  2. What was your experience with this topic (or topics related to it) in school? Why haven’t you heard from these voices, and what impact does that absence create on your learning?

  3. Why should this event/these people be included into a standard curriculum? Why do you think it hasn’t been included in the past?

  4. How can teachers include these voices in their curriculum? What ideas and resources could help transform your learning experience?
