Assignment

Victorian Era “Mini” Research

 

Overview: You will work with a small group to do initial research on one aspect of the Victorian Era to better prepare you for the criticisms Wilde produces in his work, The Importance of Being Earnest.

 

Steps:

  1. Each group will be given a topic drawn out of a hat. The complete list is below.

  2. Using databases and websites (that have been vetted per SIFT), you will compile information in the class slideshow about your topic. The expectations are as follows:

    1. 7-10 essential facts - in bulleted list form

    2. 2-3 images that encapsulates your topic within the Victorian Era period

    3. You may use up to two slides to share your information

  3. Create a complete Works Cited for sources used.

  4. Present the information to the class.

 

  • Class emphasizing The Importance of Name and Title 

  • Gender Roles: Emphasizing the roles each gender plays (make sure to include information on “the gentleman”

  • Courting, Romance, Marriage, and Family Structures

  • Education

  • The Aristocracy vs Capitalism
